Shadow functions: why your weakest trait is also your blind spot

In the Grant stack the four functions not in your stack are the attitude-flipped versions of the four that are. INTJ runs Ni–Te–Fi–Se, so its shadow is Ne–Ti–Fe–Si. Under sustained stress the inferior function does not merely weaken — it takes the wheel, which is why stress behaviour often looks like a caricature of your own weakest function.

Key points

  • The inferior function is the fourth in the stack, not the lowest score in the profile.
  • Shadow functions are a structural prediction, not a moral judgement — they are the modes you do not trust.
  • A shadow function outscoring your auxiliary is a real signal: your stack order may be inverted.
